The bottom line is that most of us need reprogramming. We’ve been taught to avoid failure by abstaining from challenges with uncertain outcomes. What if we all saw failure as needed, as a requirement for winning in life? What if we were taught that failures were our “success university” which required us to learn and graduate with a degree in order to become successful? What if we were taught to not only embrace situations where the end result of our decisions might not be certain but rather to challenge ourselves by pursuing them? What if we were taught that this is where “fulfilled living” truly exists? How would your life be different?

With the economic cycle seeming more like a black hole, with its long reaching effects touching every corporate entity regardless of its business sector, it’s hard to imagine anyone being able to watch the daily news and not become despondant. For the last 2 years we’ve seen double digit unemployment, the suspicious government bailouts of the automobile, housing and financial sectors while watching the average private sector salary plummet 41% (while federal employee compensation rose 17% I might add). There’s not much of a bright spot to make one hopeful as many seek to find any security they can in their (previously thought of) stable corporate careers and retirement accounts they planned on using to provide for themselves and their loved ones.

I wouldn’t let my son learn basketball from a coach that taught him to punch a kid in the face in order to get a rebound, or to only shoot three pointers when he can’t even make a layup and refuses to show him how. I say that knowing full well that there are a myriad of new entrepreneurs desiring success that are trying to obtain that success by taking some of the same kind of business advice.
