Facebook: The Java-Ninja Way To Mass Invite Friends To Your Fan Page, Event Or Group

funny-facebook-mass-invite-friends-event-group-fan-pageSo you’re all jacked up because you’ve just started a Facebook group and you want to invite all 3000 of your friends to get your message out.  You select the “suggest to friends” button and you discover the painful fact that those “knuckle-heads” (which sounds best when said like Charles Barkley) at Facebook won’t let you invite all your friends unless you go one by one.

HELLO!! Can you say “TIME HOG”!  Ugh!!

Well, being the rebellious and competitive dude that I am, I went on a mission to find a way to do this because I didn’t want the Facebook ”axis of evil” keepin me down.

Well folks, after much investigation I bring you “mission accomplished!”  However, with Facebook this is much like President Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” because every month or so our Facebook adversary closes the door on one code, making it no-longer effective and we have to go find another open door.

Below is the latest update.  Please let us know if you have issues and we’ll McGyver a new updated script (with only a Java expert, a paper clip and a rubber band of course Lol!).

It’s a little sneaky but it’s not black hat, just more like ”java-ninja”.

Here’s what you do:

  1. When using Mozilla Firefox OR Google Chrome go to your Event, Group or page and click “Suggest to Friends” OR “Invite People”.
  2. Once the page has loaded you should see all of your friends, but they are not selected.
  3. Right click on any friend and select “open in new tab”
  4. At this point, copy and paste either Javascript into your browser and click enter:
  • javascript:elms=document.getElementById(‘friends’).getElementsByTagName(‘li’);for(var fid in elms){if(typeof elms[fid] === ‘object’){fs.click(elms[fid]);}}

OR

  • javascript:fs.select_all();return false;

It might take some time but it will select all of your friends. Now just press “send invite” and BAM! Yer done baby!

If you have lots of friends then be patient as it may take time to select all of them.  This is especially true if you have about 5000 friends (like me cause I’m cool like that). In that case I would advise you to throw the javascript in, click enter and walk away for dinner or work in another window.  Don’t worry however, it has always worked for me if you give it enough time.

You’ll also have to be patient when it comes to the invites all going out as they go into a buffer or queue and sends them one at a time but hey, in either case you can be doing something else as the system does it’s magic. It might take a few hours to get them all out however, they WILL get out and it only takes ya 2-3 minutes of my time.  I don’t care who ya are ya gotta think that’s cool…. cause I did.

So have fun with your little Java-ninja toy and spread it to all your friends.

Again, keep me apprised of it’s effectiveness guys so we can keep the code and the solution relevant!

  1. Doesn’t it consume time and effort to keep your weblog so interesting ?

I love that you won’t let the Fbk axis of evil keep you down! Maybe you can help me with my problem too? a little bit of Java-Ninja needed here
I have a page for a nonprofit org & recently created an event for the page. A ton of folks signed up – now I want to message them with updates. But find that I can’t. There’s something wrong with this picture!
    Any suggestions??
    thanks in advance

This is a good trick. I learned it last year too..

Seems the java script no longer work. It let me invite 50 friends …

I use it regularly and it does still work. Again, be patient and let it load while you work in another window. If it loads all 5,000 of my FB friends it’ll do yours too. ~ Patrick Daugherty (Biz Coach)

PS I’ve found that some browsers do not like when you copy the script directly from the blog which had converted the script to another font. I’ve added another step of copying the script into a word doc. Changing the font to “courier” then pasting into your FB web browser. That has been tested and works well.

hey Patrick i think they have cut the code , have been using it the last year , and have tryed it today a few times and nothing. i even tried it in a different browser and still, what do you think ? let me know …
    …..

    Hey Gmanireland.
Thanks for the question and let me just say that I’ve used this code as recently as last week. I’m checking to see if the font matters because a low percentage are having trouble with it. I’ve get back and let you know when I find the solution if that’s the case. ~Patrick Daugherty (PS check the comment above for the update. Some web browsers were being difficult but we found the fix. New step is on the post)

    Hey Patrick-

I am with gmanireland. I recently found your post and code and have been trying it on different browsers, pcs and laptops with no success. Please find a solution for us poor saps if, in fact, the code still works and there is some other user specific issue that prevents this from working for us.

    Hey Killione
Thanks for letting me know that. I’ve been using it successfully from my master word doc, not copied from the blog but I have found that some systems dont like when it’s pasted from the blog because it converted it from its original font. I copied the code from the blog, converted it to Courier and pasted it. It ran perfectly. I will update the post to reflect that as well.

I have a medium sized business that has worked with over 10k clients over the past 5 years. I’ve created a company page on fb. I don’t have any friends yet but I’d like to mass invite each of the 10k contacts we’ve done business with over the years. What’s the best way to successfully accomplish this without getting blocked? Can I send them all a personalized email with a link to “like” me on fb. Will adding too many of them at one time still have adverse effects?

    Thanks. Damn fb.

  10. Mr Sandman says:

Facebook needs to stop changing things. I’d like to use some of this information on my blog if you don’t mind, and I’ll provide a link back to your site.

  11. Johanna says:

This is a GREAT function if I would get it to work. When I do it nothing happens. I haven’t waited long, but it doesn’t look like facebook is processing anything.

Could it be that this function changed after that facebook changed the design of event creation for fan pages?

    Thanks
    Johanna

It does still work. I continue to use it however I would make sure you are adhering to both of the points in Alex’s comment (“Mustang Lex”). Sometimes there is an issue with FireFox btw which is why I make sure I’m using Explorer when I perform this function.

  12. Mccurty says:

Ha, that’s actually a really good suggestion. Thanks so much for this!

  13. Damien says:

Thanks for sharing your Ninja tactic. Don’t have 5,ooo friends yet- working on it.

  14. Mustang_Lex says:

This is a great trick. Heres a couple pointers for those who have 3800 friends or more like I do.

    1) Use Internet Explorer. I love Firefox but it comes up with a script error which after you close the message the rest of the tactic doesn’t work.

    2) You will get a warning message saying IE is taking a long time and do you want to stop. Say no. It takes time but it will work.

The code dosen’t work but You can make the code work in a different way. You can read it here http://bit.ly/agsa27

I will definately add a link to this website on my page. I’m sure my followers will find this article really useful.

  24. There is an easier way…

    just copy and paste this

    javascript:fs.select_all();

but don’t hit enter… click on the top of the browser next to the address

    good luck..

  25. Jennifer says:

I’d like to try this…but when I click “suggest to friends”, my friends list won’t even load. I’m stuck.

    • bizcoach says:

Jennifer, thanks for the heads up!
Hey everyone, FB does a “crazy Ivan”, altering the way you can mass invite, every time they do a profile format change (which they just did). Let me take a look and rectify the issue for us. When I find a solution I’ll post it here & amend the post accordingly.

Again, thanks for the heads up Jennifer!

is there a new invte script available yet? thanks

  28. brandon says:

it lets you select all but now facebook stops you and asks why you are inviting all these people……lame!!!!! i use this code every show but now i think i am f’d

  29. kevin says:

Ok, I must be the dummy of the group. I followed the instructions over and over. When I right click and click on a friend to open in a new window, all I get is a new window for the event and no list of friends. I have no idea where in the browser to past the copied script?

    • bizcoach says:

No Kevin, you’re not the dummy. FB has caught up to our latest update. Every few months they do that. I (and a secret ninja friend of mine) are working to find another loop-hole to work around it. Will post it for you guys as soon as we get it, I promise!
