The Importance Of Developing Your Own Community Of “Tweet Evangelists”

The Key To Creating Site Pointed Tweets That Go Viral & A Cool Tool To Help Cultivate Your ReTweet Army!

Two years ago, most people would have no idea what you were talking about if you asked who retweeted them. My, how times have changed. If the right tweet goes “retweet viral” it can bring about a cash windfall like hitting triple-sevens on a slot machine in Vegas. Bing, bang, cha-ching!

At the very least, each retweet represents a boost for your business and depending on who did the retweeting, your reach can grow to 100 times more than your original message.

Here’s the bottom line: retweets are invaluable to your online marketing business yet they are typically managed poorly or ignored altogether by most marketers.  Cultivating a “retweet community” has been shown to exponentially increase your branding and marketing effectiveness.  When I teach this strategy I use the @mentions timeline on Twitter (which is also on most 3rd party dashboards as well) and begin to engage them.

Let me stop and jump on a soapbox for a second: Listen, I’m all for time-saving software and automated social media managers. Hell, I tweet the heck out of my content to get the message out that I provide value and for the targeted traffic. HOWEVER, if you don’t engage @mentions and retweeters that give you Tweet-PR then its all an exercise in futility!!  This is a real pet peeve of mine.

If  this is a habit you’ve fallen into, then know this; you are missing a REAL opportunity to explode your community of loyal followers and online prospects.  It’s not about what YOU say about you that gets results but rather, it’s how you move others to proclaim your message with passion that will get you REAL marketing reach!

Not to mention that if you’re found “asleep at the twitter wheel” your branding a reputation will take a huge hit that you might never recover from as potential customers become ex-followers and tell others how you’ve taken the social out of social media.

People want to be heard!  The easiest way to get loyal followers IS TO HEAR and engage them!!  The ultimate reward is the assembling of your own loyal “retweet army”!

Engaging them dramatically increases the chances that they will not only retweet another one of your tweets, but ultimately become the community of highly coveted “habitual retweeters”.  I teach the marketers in my coaching club that developing such a community is the most overlooked key to causing a tweet, a post, a website and at the end of the day, your online business to go viral.  Trust me on this, I teach this principle and see it duplicated all the time.

Now having said that, the ability to see a snapshot that shows those retweeters would allow you to easily connect with those tweet-evangelists who have proven that they are willing to share your message.  Because the care and feeding of RTers is so important, Hubspot is beta testing a simple tool that delivers all the stats you need in one place. It’s called WhoReTweetedMe.com and all you have to do is submit the URL of the webpage or blog post that you Tweeted and the tool does the rest.

What you get back are quick stats which show the number of retweeters, the average number of followers between them and the estimated “reach” of the particular URL.

After that is a timeline that shows the life of the Tweet.

The last portion of the report shows the 20 most influential people who retweeted you including the Tweet they sent, their number of followers and a thank you button. That button is golden, people. Click it and you get a Tweet like this:

“Thanks @Learn2EarnitNow http://WhoReTweetedMe.com says you are one of my most influential retweeters.”

Now, it goes without saying that it is also a promotion for the “WhoRetweetedMe.com” website but in the end, it appears to be an easy way to identify & manage your “power retweeters” allowing you to engage them in order to encourage them to RT you again.

Like I said previously, Twitter and the third-party dashboards do give you access to RT’s in your @Mentions timeline which is what I have used when I help others manage and cultivate their retweet community.  Having said that, WhoReTweetedMe.com gives you more information in a more readable format.

So type in a recently Tweeted URL, find out who is retweeting you and cultivate your retweet army!

  1. Man what a revelation Patrick I just found and delved into your site here and it makes me want to retweet all of your posts. I’m reading through them one by one though because it’s such good stuff though. Thanks for giving internet marketers a good name. @gonetodocs

  2. This is an interesting blog post. I use Twitter and consider myself very engaging and also have great success. However, it seems to me that the biggest problem is people constantly blasting their promos like Twitter is one giant billboard. There really needs to be quite a bit of space in between your promoting. You should be engaging more. People will find your promotions on your blog or in your freebie that they just signed up for because you were so engaging. Too many promo tweets can ruin it for everyone.

  3. Thanks for the advice on re-tweeting. I have been reading your tweets for some weeks now and learn something every time.

  4. OK Patrick im going to check out this
ReTweet, com and check to see if any of
    my tweets have been retweeted.
I have tweeters with 700,000 to close
to 900.000 tweeters on their list
and if what you say is true and it
sounds like it is, i need to concentrate
on all the points you just gave me.
thanks for the great info i have not
    heard this from anyone else.

Hi Patrick – nice post. Thanks especially for the point about thanking your retweeters – especially those that habitually retweet you. It is easy to forget about them, as they retweet you anyway, but as you go looking for other retweeters, you must reward your loyal followers with a little thankyou.

  6. After exploring a handful of the blog articles on
your website, I honestly like your way of blogging.

I book marked it to my bookmark site list and will be checking
back soon. Please visit my website too and let me know how you feel.
