Is Google trying to kill off your hard drive? Google says you don’t need it anymore. The company is also betting you won’t need that Windows, Macintosh or Linux stuff either. Crazy I know but Google says it wants you to access, operate, and edit all your files on the Internet.
Google has developed a lightweight operating system of its own, the first new competition for Windows and Macs in years. It’s called Chrome OS. And it could have a profound effect on the way we work with computers.
You won’t be able to put it on your current PC. But Google wants it to power your NEXT computer.
And because it’s based almost entirely on the Internet, Chrome is smart and superfast. No more “Where did I save that file?” No more computer slowdowns. No more crashes?
“Today’s operating systems were designed in an era where there was no web,” Google spokesman Eitan Bencuya told FoxNews.com. “Google Chrome OS is designed for people who spend most of their time on the web. It’s our attempt to re-think what operating systems should be.”
Some think it’s the next step in the technological progression. No need for file back up. No computer crashes. However, some say it does present new privacy concerns with all of your private files being stored remotely.

Great post thanks – it is going to be very useful.
Great info. Patrick, look forward to read more.
Nice post.
thanks for the share.
So what kind of PC will we have to have?
It’ll be basically the same type of computer just without a large hard-drive. They’ll position it as a safer way to secure your data and you’ll just connect with your OS tht is stored remotely. Right now, the “back up” services ensure you’ll never lose your data however, if it’s all being remotely stored then you just hope and pray the Google OS doesnt get a virus or have the system go down or even worse, get hacked and all your data stolen with all your “data eggs” in the Google basket.
Great points. I let some of my family know about your site. Keep up the good work, i’ll be back soon.
Brilliant. Thanks for the list.
Its true. The concept of a distributed, ubiquitous operating system has been around for years, but the scale of IT infrastructure and bandwidth has always been a constraint until now. Hopefully, we’re going to see a new era in pervasive computing soon
This sure sounds intriguing, I love Google actually so I can’t wait to see where this goes.
This is a very well thought out and written post

Great info. I won’t be getting Chrome OS.
Obviously put a lot of effort into these and essentially hope you know how deeply I appreciate it. I hope I can do some thing
While there is the obvious concern for security and privacy, I would know this going in and take necessary precautions. On the other hand, I can see so much potential for this and I think it would work with my style. Definitely!
No thank you! I don’t want Google in charge of all my files. Thanks for the heads up.
